Camping World to Re-Open Nearly 70 Gander Mountain Stores

Camping World Holdings Inc. (NYSE: CWH) today announced the initial list of former Gander Mountain retail stores it plans to re-open in 2018, bucking the recent trend of more store closures. The stores will re-open as Gander Outdoors.

Lincolnshire, IL-based Camping World was chosen as the winning bidder at a bankruptcy auction for certain assets of Gander Mountain and the sale was approved in a bankruptcy court hearing in May 2017. The winning bid was about $390 million.

Gander Mountain Co. filed for bankruptcy reorganization in March 2017. At the time, it operated 166 outdoor equipment and sporting goods supercenters.

“It was important to me to bring Gander Outdoors back to many wonderful communities across the country because the employees are top notch and the stores provide great products and services for the community,” said Marcus Lemonis, chairman of Camping World Holdings.

Lemonis previously said he planned to operate only those stores with a clear path to profitability. But he also shared the goal of operating 70 or more locations subject to, among other things, the ability to negotiate acceptable lease terms with landlords.

Following months of negotiations and remodeling existing locations, the company plans to open 69 locations by May 2018.

“We feel this list of locations is very solid and ready to be up and running in the coming months,” Lemonis said. “Two locations have already opened, two more are slated to open next week, and others will begin opening at a very rapid pace over the next few months.”

In addition to the locations identified below, Gander Outdoors said it is currently pursuing additional locations for expansion and expects to announce more locations and markets in the near term.
